Aquaman, King of Atlantis, Ruler of the Sea, has been found dead, his body washed ashore covered in oil. He had recently been seen in the Gulf Coast near the Deepwater Horizon oil spill helping officials find a way to cap the massive leak. The Deepwater Horizon offshore oil rig mysteriously exploded on April 28th and has been leaking thousands of barrels of crude oil a day into the already polluted gulf coast with no real end in site.
Arthur Joseph Curry, aka Aquaman, a staunch environmentalist and opponent of undersea pollution, seems to have been done in by the very thing he fought so hard against. His body was taken to the Mobile Naval facilities for investigation before being flown to Justice League Headquarters for further study. Cause of death has not been made official but early analysis reveal his oil soaked lungs and clogged gills to be the most likely source of death.
Not only was he the King of Atlantis but he was also a founding member of the Justice League International, formerly the Justice League of America, and was known to be a close friend and confidant of the likes of Superman, Batman, Wonder Women and the Green Lantern.
A statement read very quickly by the Flash, was released this afternoon. “It is the wish of the Justice League to express our extreme sorrow and heartfelt grief at the lose of such an esteemed comrade and fellow super hero. Wherever there was tyranny or injustice, there Aquaman was, fighting at the forefront of it all, as long as it was underwater. What we will be without him, what shall we do without him, remains to be seen,
While there has been no conclusive evidence so far, an ongoing investigation by the Justice League suggest foul play may be involved.
“Our early evidence suggest that Aquaman’s arch enemy, Black Manta may have caused the explosion that caused the oil spill Aquaman died from. Right now our agents Zatanna and the Green Arrow our tracking down all possible leads, but know this, the Justice League will not rest until we have uh, justice”
A then emotional Batman interrupted screaming, “I’m coming for you Black Manta! So help me God I will boil the entire Ocean if I have to but I’m coming for you!” before being restrained by Wonder Women’s lasso.
Aquaman is survived by his estranged wife Mera, now Queen of Atlantis. His only heir Arthur Jr. was tragically killed by Black Manta several years ago.
